The Volokh Conspiracy » Stop Criticizing President Obama for Playing Golf

This article by Dave Kopel of The Volokh Conspiracy website defends Obama’s frequent playing of golf by comparing him to Eisenhower, who apparently played twice a week. As usual the comments section reveals interesting bits of wisdom…

Says Dave N. – As someone who did not vote for the President in 2008 and almost certainly will not vote for him in 2012, I have to say that I agree. The President (regardless of who actually IS the President at any given time) has a demanding job and is essentially on call for four years 24/7.

Replies Law Dawg – Please. If anything, this proves that Ike would have easily destroyed the Soviet Empire had he not been distracted by golf.

Sort of reminds me of the comment heard while listening to a basketball announcer rave about a “no-look pass”… namely, imagine how much better if he looked!

Wacky News

August 23, 2010

Okay, here are some items I found on drudgereport.com that may be a signal of the end of the world as we know it…

Chilean rescuers discovered 33 miners trapped 17 days after the mine collapsed… and don’t think they’ll be able to get them out until CHRISTMAS! That’s four months of rescue efforts… water and food are being provided and everyone’s healthy down there – but four months… wow.

Then there’s the 60 mile long traffic jam in China that’s going on it’s 9th day and “no end in sight”. Sheesh… pull over and get a bite to eat while it winds down… or take cooking classes – whichever takes less time.

Last but not least – crocodiles have been found wandering around  NYC, Chicago, and Brockton in Massachusetts.

Yeah, things are getting a little weird out there.

Obama Not Getting It

Please, No More Teachable Moments – Article – National Review Online

Victor Davis Hanson put it so well, but I was thinking the same thing about Obama. My very first reaction to the Cambridge police incident was that presidents DON’T comment on that sort of thing except maybe to mention it as an unfortunate misunderstanding for all involved.

Chalk this up to inexperience his first year in office.

But then he jumped into the Ground Zero Mosque, and I had forgotten about his positions on the Arizona immigration law. My God man, even the dimmest politician knows you stay neutral on EVERYTHING controversial until you absolutely have to make a choice.

But this president doesn’t appear to be getting it… again, I have to wonder about all the press lauding his intelligence after the election  – sheesh… he makes Bush look brilliant.
